Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council’s Young Peoples Services delivers a range of targeted engagement and support services throughout the Borough.  The service focusses on the following key strands:

Targeted Youth Support 

Targeted Youth Support is a voluntary participation service aimed at addressing the needs of vulnerable children and young people, aged 8 – 19 years (25 SEND)

 

Participation

The YPS participation service delivers a number of weekly opportunities around Youth Voice – these include the BwD Youth Forum & SYA Youth Forum, CIOC and Care Leavers forums and support of the Youth MP and deputies.

SEND Inclusion

The SEND Inclusion Project works with the whole SEND range (5-25 Years) – with activities and support tailored to meet the needs of children and young people.

 

Positive Activities Team

The PAT delivers a number of income generating activities for a range of public, voluntary and charitable partners and bespoke programmes to schools and youth groups.

Blackburn and Darwen YouthZone is a 21st century YouthZone located at the heart of Blackburn, open to young people aged 5 to 25 years old, aiming to change the prospects offered to young people in the area. Offering a state-of-the-art £5 million facility, young people have a space which provides “Somewhere to go, something to do and someone to talk to”.

Uniquely, this is happening in partnership with young people rather than on their behalf. As such, Blackburn and Darwen YouthZone is led with the principle of ‘starting where young people are, going where young people take us’.

Blackburn and Darwen YouthZone is built on land where, 100years ago, Blackburn’s first electricity generating station once stood. On the place where electricity first came to and powered the town, the Youth Zone is now powering the community through the energy and creativity of young people.

Blackburn with Darwen Healthy Living aims to tackle the health, social and economic inequalities experienced in the borough and we do this by providing individuals and communities with the support, information and tools they need to enable them to make long lasting changes to their health and wellbeing. We put residents at the heart of decision making about their communities. We very much believe that “working with” rather than “doing to” communities is how we can make a sustainable difference as an organisation. In 2012 we won the GlaxoSmithKline Impact Award for our work to improve people’s health.

Inspire Motivate Overcome (IMO) charity initially began its work in 2006 by providing recreational and diversionary activities for young people in the Audley & Queens Park ward in an urban town called Blackburn, Lancashire. Since then it has grown its offering to work with and alongside the community; filling gaps in service where the people tell them there is need. IMO’s ethos is to support all of those who have an influence on the future generations whether that be family, peers, statutory organisations, businesses or the wider community.

UCO (Uniting Communities CIC) is a youth and community based organisation speacialising in community based youth work. We run Little Harwood and Accrington road community centres and offer a range of different programmes for young people and their families in both centres. From youth clubs, girls groups, mother and toddler groups, youth voice projects, Ladies groups and luncheon clubs. We work with a range of different partners supporting the best outcomes for young people and enable young people to lead on social action within the community. We have been in operation since 2006 and have a very experienced team of youth workers who have great knowledge of both the communities and the areas we work in.
